Appointment to Professorship
President of the Slovak Republic Andrej Kiska appointed Assoc. Prof. Mgr. Alžbeta Marček Chorvátova, DrSc. a Professor in the field of Biophysics. The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace on 11 June 2019. We extend our sincere congratulations to Professor Marček Chorvátova.

Prolongation of the ISIC card.
Graduating students (3rd year Bc., 2nd year Mgr. and above-standard years of study) who will take the State Examination in August (or do not finish their study) have to prolong their ISIC card to be able to use the discounts in travel(expiration date is 30 June 2019). The students can prolong the validity of their ISIC cards on the university terminal in the UCM Main Building, Námestie J. Herdu 2, or on other public terminals (the list is available here). By placing the ISIC card close to the terminal, the student will prolong his/her card until 31 August 2019.

‘Haluškovanie 2019’
Dear students, employees and friends of the UCM, we would like to invite you to the traditional competition in cooking sheep cheese dumplings ‘Haluškovanie’, which will take place on Thursday, 9 May 2019 at 15:00 p.m. in the gardens of Špačince (behind the building of the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Špačince).
Rules: Four-member teams will compete in cooking sheep cheese dumplings.
The Faculty of Natural Sciences will provide the required ingredients and help to ensure the room for preparation. Competitors will bring the utensils for cooking (pots, spoons, bowls, knives, pans, chopping boards, etc).
The competing teams (team‘s name and the list of the required ingredients) can register by Friday, 3 May 2019 via e-mail jan.rimarcik@ucm.sk.

On behalf of the Organisational and Scientific Committees of the Student Research Conference at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University, we invite you to a scientific event with the international participation,

the Student Research Conference at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University 2019,

which will take place at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University in Bratislava
on April 10th, 2019.

The students of bachelor, master/engineering, and doctoral degree programmes (without PhD.) have a special opportunity to present the results of their research work. The students of secondary schools and „gymnaziums“ are also invited to participate in the conference.
In each of the main sections (biological, didactics, environmental, geographical, geological, chemical), the following awards will be given:
Diplomas and appraisals of the Dean of the faculty, the Prize of the President of the Slovak Nuclear Forum for the best contribution in the field of fuel cycle of nuclear–energy facilities and exploitation of ionising radiation in medical natural sciences, and also the prizes of commercial firms.
The output of the conference will be the peer-reviewed proceedings containing full-text contributions with the ISBN.

2 % of the income tax for TAS UCM in Trnava

You can donate 2% of your income tax to the Trnava Academic Society at the UCM in Trnava, a civic association whose aim is to support the development of the University of SS Cyril and Methodius in Trnava, education, building of the library fund, improvement of material and technical equipment at the UCM in Trnava, and provide financial support to students with excellent academic performance.

The donation form for contributing with 2% of the income tax to the Trnava Academic Society at the UCM in Trnava is available here.

The filled in form should be sent to the Checking and Audit Section at the UCM in Trnava, Room No. 116 A, J. Herdu Square 2, Trnava, no later than 20 April 2019.

We are grateful to all who have decided to contribute with 2% of their income tax and to those who have informed others about the possibility to support us in this way.

Check- up on academic achievement for motivation scholarships in the academic year 2018/2019

In connection with the allocation of motivation scholarships, we ask the students of higher courses to check up the AIS registration of their academic achievement in all completed courses in the academic year 2017/2018, no later than 29 October 2018. In casethat the assessment or date of any course is incorrectly registered in the AIS, the student is obliged to inform the Student Affairs Office at his or her faculty (§ 11 point 12 of the Study Regulations of the UCM in Trnava).
The first year students, who have not submitted their grade average for the last year of study at a secondary school to the Student Affairs Office, can do it no later than 29 October 2018.

Opening of the Research Centre of Radioecology and Nuclear Analysis.
16 October 2018, 11:00 a. m. A ceremonial opening of the joint research centre of the Department of Ecochemistry and Radioecology and the BIONT company for positron emission tomography will take place on the premises of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of UCM in Trnava (Hlavná Street 418, 919 51 Špačince). THE EUROPEAN RESEARCHER’S NIGHT
Colourful Biotechnologieswas the title of the stand in which the Department of Biotechnologies at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of UCM in Trnava presented their work at the European Researcher’s Night. The event took place on Friday 28 September 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 23:00 p.m. on the premises of "Stará tržnica" in Bratislava. More than 80 stands representing science and research carried out in various institutions in Slovakia and abroad participated in this event. The visitors coming to the stand "Colourful Biotechnologies" could see that biotechnologies can have many different colours, from red and green up to black. The visitors could also learn about the subject of interest of biotechnologies at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of UCM. They were especially interested in colour reactions of antokyans, which changed their colour depending upon the pH of their environment, in separation of green plant pigment chlorofyll, or in versicoloured nutrient media on which various microorganisms were cultivated, thus decolourising the medium based on the production of different metabolites. The experiments attracted not only elementary school pupils, but also their pedagogues, secondary school students and higher education students. Some adults could even play scientists for a while.
All visitors received the procedure of the experiment in order to perform it at home. They can share the results of the experiment with us via the Instagram.

The university monthly ‘atteliér’ is recruiting new members to its editorial staff. Come and join us on 3rd October 2018 (Wednesday) at 17:30 p.m. in Skladová Street. There, in the basement of the FMK UCM building, our suite creates the content of the journal.
The mapping of student life at UCM and happenings in the town of Trnava, observing of the university politics, or bringing attractive themes for students in various rubrics. These are the things, about which the readers of the university periodic ‘atteliér’, or its online version, will learn. Now, you have an opportunity to take active part in creating its content. We will teach you all the necessary things.

Participation of the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Trnava in Researchers’ Night 2018”

On 28 September 2018 (Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 23:00 p.m.), the twelfth year of the festival of science Researchers’ Night will take place in v Bratislava (Stará tržnica), Košice (Atrium Optima), Žilina (Aupark Shopping Center), Banská Bystrica (Europa Shopping Center), and in Poprad (Shopping Centre MAX). The motto of this year’s festival of science is “Researchers Inside Us”.
The Faculty of Natural Sciences will participate in this event with two stands, in Bratislava and in Banská Bystrica.
In Bratislava, the Department of Biotechnologies will present their research in the stand called “Colourful Biotechnologies”, showing the work with natural and artificial dyes, proof reactions for saccharides, fats and proteins, changes observed under the microscope or visible to the naked eye on various natural objects.
In BanskáBystrica, the members and PhD. candidates of the Department of Ecochemistry and Radioecology will present their work in the stand called “Trace the Substances in Organisms”, where they will demonstrate the possibilities of detection and tracing of selected substances in living systems. Invitation to the Science Fair 2018 with the participation of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of UCM in Trnava
On 14 September 2018 (Friday; 8:30 a.m. – 17:30 p.m.), the third year of the Science Fair will take place at Eurovea Square in Bratislava.
The Faculty of Natural Sciences of UCM in Trnava will also participate in this event in by means of two scientific stands. In the first stand called "The Rainbow World of Biotechnologies", the members and PhD. candidates at the Department of Biotechnologies will present in a playful form the "colourfulness" of biotechnologies via demonstrative examples of biochemical reactions, observations of bacterial growth, and samples of various colourful plant seeds obtained by cross-breeding.
The second theme called "Plants at the Medical Examiner" will include the presentation of the results of scientific activities carried out by the members and PhD candidates at the Department of Ecochemistry and Radioecology in the field of medical diagnostic techniques in plant research. This theme will be presented in a common stand shared with the BIONT Company. We ae looking forward to meeting you!

1st – 15th August 2018 – changes in the registration of subjects – if the changes are allowed by the faculty (registration of elective subjects or registration of repeated subjects)

Procedure and manual
In the case that the faculty has allowed the changes in elective subjects or in optional subjects, these changes have to be registered in the AIS. The student is obliged to contact the Students Affairs Office at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of UCM within the first two weeks of the winter semester 2018/2019.

Pedagogues and research workers have an opportunity to apply for the Fulbright Scholarship in the areas of research and lecturing. The grants are determined for specialists with a longer professional or research practice in all scientific disciplines except Clinical Medicine. The grants allow the specialists to conduct independent research and/or lectures. The duration of scholarship may be from three to six months. Having elected Prof. Ing. Roman Boča, DrSc., Dean of the FNS UCM as a candidate for the UCM Rector and awaiting the appointment of a Rector, the FNS UCM Academic Senate approved the following Dean’s election schedule in the meeting on 27 March 2018:

- By 16 April 2018, 12.00 noon: The candidate proposals for the FNS Dean should be submitted to the FNS Academic Senate Chair, or sent to his address via the filing office, or handed in at the Dean’s Office Secretariat. The Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University in Bratislava invites you to take part in the Student Research Conference 2018, which will take place on 25 April 2018.
The students of bachelor, master/engineering, and doctoral studies (without PhD.) have an excellent opportunity to present the results of their work. The best participants in each of the main sections (biological, didactic, environmental, geographical, geological, and chemical) will receive the diplomas and appraisals of the Dean of the faculty, the Prize of the President of the Slovak Nuclear Forum for the best contribution in the field of nuclear power plant fuel cycle and ionising radiation utilisation in medical and natural sciences, as well as the prizes of commercial firms.

Planned interruption of power supply
On 9 February 2018 from 7:30 a.m. to 15:30 p.m., the planned interruption of power supply will take place in the UCM building at Nám. J. Herdu 2, and in the UCM kitchen and canteen at Rybníkova 13 in Trnava.
For this reason, the computer network (Internet, AIS, emails, etc.)and telephone lines in the UCM buildings (except for the Institute of Physiotherapy, Balneology and Medical Rehabilitation) will be out of operation from 7:30 a.m. to 16:00 p.m. It will not be possible to access the UCM ICT systems (web pages, AIS) off the university premises.

Obituary Announcement
We express our profound grief and sorrow at the loss of the rectorof the University of SS Cyril and Methodius in Trnava, Dr. h. c. Assoc. Prof. Ing. Jozef Matúš, CSc., who passed away on 29 November 2017 aged 77 years.
Mr. Jozef Matúš worked at the UCM from its foundation as a higher education teacher, later he occupied the positions of Vice-Dean and Dean at the Faculty of Mass Media Communication. In 2010 he was appointed rector of the University of SS Cyril and Methodius in Trnava. Thanks to his ardent efforts, he contributed to the development of the university in the fields of pedagogy, science and research, thus managing to maintain the UCM among the leading Slovak universities.

We express our deepest gratitude and respect for all these activities, as well as for his human attitude to students and employees of the university.

May he rest in peace!

UCM in Trnava in cooperation with the National Career Centre invites all students to attend the annual Career Day, on which the students will be offered an opportunity to participate in a round-table discussion with the biggest employers in Slovakia.
The Career Day 2017 will take place on 22 November 2017 in the UCM Entrance Hall in Bučianska Street, Trnava, in two groups:
Group 1 - from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Group 2 – from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
There will be a coffee break, and thus an opportunity for networking. Checking out exam results for motivational scholarships in the academic year 2017/2018
With regard to allocation of scholarships, we would like to ask the students of higher classes to check out all exam results recorded in the AIS system during the academic year 2016/2017, (deadline 23 October 2017). In case that any exam result or date is incorrectly recorded in the AIS system, the students are obliged to inform the Student Affairs Office at theirfaculty (Section 11 (12) of the Rules of Study at UCM in Trnava).
Those first year students who did not give their average of study results for the last year of study at the secondary school to the Student Affairs Office can do so by 23 October 2017.

Announcement of the Centre for Information and Communication Technologies at UCM (CIKT)
Dear students, we would like to inform you that a new system for using WiFi has been in operation from the academic year 2017/2018:
– the “ucm-wifi” network is not available anymore;
– new networks administered by the CIKT are named “UCM” and “UCM-limitovana”;
– the network “UCM-limitovana” does not demand any access data, however, it provides access only to the systems administered within UCM (e.g., AiS2);
– the UCM network provides the Internet access and it demands the name and password, where the name is your personal number and the password is your Personal Identification Number without the slash ( / );
– you can find your personal number in the AiS2 (it is the so called IDO – identifier of the person), the first year students can also find this number in their Decision on Admission to UCM;
– some operation systems require application-specific settings to make it possible for students to use the UCM network;
– further information, as well as more detailed procedures for connecting can be found at: wifi.ucm.sk.
We remind the students that by using WiFi at UCM, their computer devices (or other communication devices) are becoming part of the UCM network. Therefore, the students are obliged to abide by the Rector’s Directive No. 1/2006 and the rules of the SANET network. The students are especially cautioned to observe the Copyright Law.

The European Workshop on RIS3 – Biotechnologies in Europe has finished
The European Workshop entitled “Specialization Strategy (RIS3) in the Field of Biotechnologies in Europe: A Challenge for CEE Region“, finished on 6 September 2017. The Workshop was organised by the Faculty of Natural Sciences of UCM in Trnava in cooperation with the International Centre for Applied Research and Sustainable Technology (ICARST), Bratislava and the Slovak Academy of Sciences, under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic. Financial and organisational support was provided by the following organisations: Joint Research Centre of the European Commission(JRC-EC) in Brussels (BE), Central European Initiative (CEI), and International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) both in Trieste (IT). European workshop - RIS3 biotechnologies in Europe

The Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of SS. Cyril and Methodius, Trnava in cooperation with the Slovak Academy of Sciences and ICARST, Bratislava organises the workshop on "Smart Specialization Strategy in the Field of Biotechnologies in Europe: A Challenge for CEE Region" held in the Hotel Tatra, Bratislava, on 4 – 6 September 2017, focusing the search for new methods of mutual cooperation, addressing challenges in the framework of the EU and the whole Europe.

The workshop will be attended by more than 100 participants, including academic leaders, specialists from the European Commission and many researchers and specialists from more than ten countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The workshop is organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic in cooperation and with financial support of the Central European Initiative (CEI), Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (JRC- EC) and International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB).

The tenth year of the “Drop of Blood” at the UCM

Children’s University of SS Cyril and Methodius in Trnava 2016 (DUCM)
Following the excellent experience of previous years, the organisational team have been preparing the fourth year of DUCM, which will take place on July 4th - 8th, 2016. We are preparing a valuable programme for children aged 9 - 14 years, which will inform the participants about life at university, fields of study at individual faculties and, at the same time, enrich their knowledge in a playful form.
The project of DUCM offers the children a unique opportunity to spend their summer holiday in an active way. The children will spend a week full of experiences, trips, various games, and lectures, which are all prepared for them.
Come to experience for yourself and you will see that life at university can be fun.

The course of Sports Activities starts on Wednesday, 4 November 2015. Those students who are interested in swimming (the course is listed in the AIS) are asked to come to the swimming-pool of the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology, Slovak University of Technology, Bottova Street in Trnava, at 18.50 p.m.
Fitness exercises begin on Monday, 9 November 2015. Those students who are interested in exercises (the course is listed in the AIS) are asked to come to the gymnasium of the Student Dormitory of Trnava University, Rybníková Street in Trnava, at 18.20 p.m.
The entrance to the swimming-pool is through the Student Dormitory of the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology, Bottova Street. To access the dormitory, you will be asked to present your Student ID Card which also serves as a security deposit for lending a locker. Take along your swimming suit, towel, slippers, and a swimming cap.

Children’s University of SS Cyril and Methodius in Trnava 2015 (DUCM)
After a very good experience from previous years, the organisational team have been preparing the third year of DUCM, which will take place from 6th to 10th July 2015.

Results of the Dean Election at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of UCM
In accordance with the election schedule and the Rules for the Election of the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of UCM, election of the candidate for the Dean of the Faculty took place on 5 May 2015. The Academic Senate of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of UCM in Trnava elected prof. Ing. Roman Boča, DrSc. a candidate for the Dean of the Faculty by a ratio of votes 9:7, for the term from 1 September 2015 to 31 August 2019. In compliance with Article 7 point 5) letter a) of the Statute of UCM, the Chair of the Faculty Senate shall recommend the Rector of the University of SS Cyril and Methodius in Trnava to appoint the candidate elected, prof. Ing. Roman Boča, DrSc., Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences with effect from 1 September 2015.

National Scholarship Programme – a new call to submit applications

Opportunity to submit applications for scholarships related to study, research, and teaching stays in the academic year 2015/2016 from the National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic for the Supports of Mobility. The deadline for submitting applications is no later than 30 April 2015 at 16:00 p.m. The scholarships are determined for university students and PhD. students studying at Slovak higher education institutions (also in case of PhD. students studying at external education institutions in the wording of the Law on Higher Education Institutions, e.g. the Slovak Academy of Sciences) with a permanent residence in Slovakia. The elections were carried out in a regular manner, in compliance with the procedures of the AS FPV. Thirty-one master-degree students took part in the elections (40.7 % participation). Obituary Announcement
We express our deepest grief and sorrow for the loss of our friend, colleague and pedagogue Assoc. Prof. Ing. Ernest Šturdík, CSc., who passed away on 9th April 2014 aged 66 years. The last farewell to the late Mr. Ernest Šturdík will be held on 15th April 2014 at 11.00 a.m. in the Crematory in Bratislava. We have lost an outstanding, devoted colleague and a dear friend. The second- and third-year Bachelor students of BIOT, CHEM, APBI, ECHT, and the second-year Master students of ACBC are asked to submit their credit cards checked with the AIS record for the academic year 2012/2013 (the credit card should contain the list of the passed exams and signed by all teachers, as well as the list of subjects enrolled in the academic year 2013/2014). The students will hand in their credit cards to Mrs. Dagmar Machovičová, room No. 03, FPV UCM building in Špačince before 31.10.2013.
The second-year Bachelor students of APIN will submit their credit cards to Ing. Jana Jurinová, PhD. before 31.10.2013.

The first year of the Children’s University of SS Cyril and Methodius in Trnava.
On 8th July 2013, the first annual Children’s University of SS Cyril and Methodius in Trnava (the Children’s UCM)opened with the matriculation ceremony attended by the academic representatives: on behalf of the Rector, PhDr. Dagmar Valentovičová, CSc.; PhDr. Dana Petranová, PhD; Assoc. Prof. Mgr. Katarína Nováková, PhD.; Ing. Eva Čapošová; Mgr. Juraj Miština, PhD. The programme of the fourth day of study was organised by the Faculty of Natural Sciences under the direction of Assoc. Prof. Ing. Stanislav Hostin, PhD.
In the morning the students of the Children’s UCM listened to the lecture on the history and importance of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in the treatment and nutrition of humankind. The programme went on with practical activities and recommendations concerning the Internet safety. The students carried out physical experiments with tools that can be found in every household. They also learned how to use computer applications in the creation of games and in scientific work. Finally, they learned about the development of communication technologies and their changes in the twenty-first century.
The afternoon programme consisted mainly of practical experiments in the chemical laboratory. The students could blow up balloons using a chemical reaction, they observed the changes in colour of the foods according to whether the foods were placed in an acidic or an alkaline environment, and also practiced mixing various substances together. The students displayed a great interest in Bengali fireworks which could be prepared in a chemical laboratory.
In a microbiological laboratorythe students had an opportunity to apply the knowledge gained during the lecture on microorganisms around us. They examined the yeasts and fibrous fungi under the microscope and saw how microorganisms are preserved in laboratories.
The students were amused by writing with invisible ink which enabled them to hide their secrets from other people’s eyes even in the places where anybody could watch. Another surprise was that in a laboratory, writing with colour markers could change into an experiment involving isolation of individual colours. In further experiments the students tried out how to grow plants in a test tube. The programme of the fourth day of the Children’s UCM ended successfully with registering the students’ activities into their record books.Photo Gallery.

Interview with Nathan Strom, a student from the USA
Nathan Stromis an American student from Juniata College, Huntington, Pennsylvania, taking his internship study at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of SS Cyril and Methodius in Trnava. His study has been carried out under the aegis of the Rector of the university, Dr. h. c. doc. Ing. Jozef Matúš, CSc., mim. prof.
Nathan has been working on his research project under the surveillance of Prof. Ing. Roman Boča, DrSc., Head of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences. The topic of his research project is “The synthesis of nickel and cobalt complexes with amino acids”.

Checking up the study records
The examination period of the summer term of the academic year 2012/2013 ended on 30 June 2013. The pedagogues are obliged to record the assessment of all subjects that students passed in the prescribed way into the Academic Information System (AIS) by 4 July 2013.The students are obliged to check if the assessment of all subjects they have passed is recorded in the AIS.

The Children’s University of SS. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava
The University of SS. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava starts the first annual Children’s UCM project (Slovak abbr. DUCM), to be held on 8 – 12 July, 2013. The Children’s UCM will be opened by the immatriculation ceremony. The children will take part in a weekly programme consisting of lectures, workshops, and activities dependent on the focus and study disciplines of individual faculties of the UCM. The programme will be completed by the graduation ceremony where the students will be given diplomas in the presence of the UCM statutory representatives.
